“Revival of the Cathedral.” A Film Dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Consecration of the Ascension Cathedral in the City of Petropavlovsk

April 20, 2026. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a film entitled “Revival of the Cathedral” has been released by the Metropolitan District’s television studio “Semirechye” (director – Honored Cultural Worker V. Posadneva; chief cameraman – A. Schmidt) to mark the 20th anniversary of the consecration of the Ascension Cathedral in the city of Petropavlovsk.

The film presents the past and present of the principal church of the capital of Northern Kazakhstan. It highlights the key stages of the restoration of the shrine: from the laying of the foundation in 1999 to the great consecration in 2005.

The production includes materials on the labors of the first rector of the cathedral, Mitred Archpriest Sergius Snopkov, as well as on the contemporary life of the parish under the leadership of the ruling hierarch, Archbishop Vladimir of Petropavlovsk and Bulaevo.

Special attention is given to the bringing to the cathedral of church-wide shrines – the right hand of Saint Spyridon of Trimythous, the Pochaev and Kazan icons of the Mother of God, as well as to the activity of the largest Sunday school in the region.
