Head of the Metropolitan District Celebrates the Divine Liturgy at the Alexander Nevsky Church in Astana

June 2, 2026 – the commemoration of the uncovering of the relics of St. Alexy, Metropolitan of Moscow and All Rus’, Wonderworker.

Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Alexander Nevsky Church of the Convent dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God Recovery of the Lost in the city of Astana.

Concelebrating with the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan were: Archimandrite Sergiy (Karamyshev), Dean of the parishes of the capital; Hieromonk Modest (Drozdov), spiritual father of the convent; Archpriest Mikhail Zinchenko, cleric of the Alexander Nevsky Church; Hieromonk Siluan (Sinegubov), cleric of the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in the capital of Kazakhstan; Deacon Ilya Davydov; and Deacon Ilya Salyakhov.

The hymns were sung by the choir of the Sts. Constantine and Helen Cathedral of the capital under the direction of N.V. Mazurina.

Praying during the Divine Liturgy were: Abbess Sevastiana (Plotnikova), superior of the Convent dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God Recovery of the Lost, together with the sisters of the monastery; O.N. Ovchinnikov, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, and member of the Patriarchal Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing; staff members of the diocesan administration; pilgrims; and parishioners of the church.

The sermon following the Communion verse was delivered by Hieromonk Modest (Drozdov).

At the conclusion of the divine service, a festal glorification (slavlenie) was held before the icon of the Most Holy Trinity – clergy, choir, and faithful sang the troparion, kontakion, and magnification of the feast.

The Head of the Metropolitan District congratulated those praying on the commemoration day of St. Alexy of Moscow, after which he addressed those present with words of instruction.
