October 9, 2024 – the day of the commemoration of the repose of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian, and the feast day of St. Tikhon, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the St. Michael Archangel Cathedral in the city of Uralsk. At the start of the service, a great relic was brought to the main cathedral of Western Kazakhstan – the relics and a portion of the vestments of Blessed Matrona of Moscow. This event coincided with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Astana and Almaty Diocese and the upcoming 15th anniversary of the establishment of the canonical status of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
Concelebrating with the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan were: Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan, Vicar of the Astana Diocese; Bishop Vianor of Uralsk and Atyrau; Archimandrite Feodosy (Kuryanov), rector of the St. Michael Archangel Cathedral in Uralsk; Protopriest Evgeny Vorobyev, rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in Almaty; Archimandrite Dionysius (Kozulev) of the Pokrovsky Convent in Uralsk; Hegumen Ilia (Danileyko), rector of St. Nicholas Church in Uralsk; Hegumen Dorofei (Dilmanayev), head of the Information Department of the Uralsk Diocese; Protopriest Anatoly Robu, rector of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Uralsk; Protopriest Vladimir Garasim, Dean of the Uralsk Church District; Protopriest Georgy Lemachko, cleric of the St. Michael Archangel Cathedral in Uralsk; Protopriest Vasily Kroyter, Dean of the Prieuralsk Church District; Hieromonk Prokhor (Yendovitsky), head of the Metropolitan’s Secretariat; Priest Georgy Sidorov, head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolitan District; Priest Georgy Rublinsky, sacristan of Kazan Cathedral in Almaty; Archdeacon Vasily (Kryukov), secretary of the Uralsk Diocesan Administration; Protodeacon Nikolai Grinkevich; Protodeacon Ioann Roshka; Protodeacon Roman Golovin, head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service; Protodeacon Vladimir Syrovatsky, and Deacon Rustik Yakupov.
The choir of St. Michael Archangel Church, directed by L.V. Bondareva, sang the hymns for the Liturgy.
In attendance at the service were Archbishop Antony (Moskalenko); Abbess Varvara (Morozova), Mother Superior of the Pokrovsky Convent, along with the nuns of the convent; Consul General of the Russian Federation in Uralsk, A.V. Gruby; members of the Cossacks; parishioners of the city’s churches; and pilgrims from nearby settlements.
After the Communion Hymn, Priest Georgy Sidorov read the address of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan on the occasion of the arrival of the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow in Kazakhstan.
The Liturgy concluded with a magnification to the Evangelist John the Theologian, Patriarch Tikhon, and Blessed Matrona before the reliquary containing her relics.
Metropolitan Alexander expressed his gratitude to Bishop Vianor of Uralsk and Atyrau and to all the participants of the service for their shared prayers and congratulated them on the arrival of the relics of the revered saint, Blessed Matrona, in the capital of Western Kazakhstan. Afterward, the hierarch sprinkled the faithful with holy water and delivered a homily.
Following the homily, parishioners and pilgrims began venerating the great Orthodox relics.
