October 19, 2024. Almaty. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan met with participants of the scientific-practical conference “Choir Conducting Service in the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan: The Path to Mastery.” The meeting took place in the fireplace hall of the administrative and cultural center of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, named after Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov).
Among those present at the meeting were: Deputy Chairman of the Church-Public Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing, Artistic Director of the Moscow Synodal Choir, Honored Artist of Russia A.A. Puzakov; Choir Conductor of the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo, Moscow, and Lecturer at the Department of Choral Conducting at the Popov Academy of Choral Arts, A.K. Mayorov; Candidate of Philosophical Sciences and author of the channel “Thus” S.T. Kruglikov.
Also present were: Secretary of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, Honored Cultural Worker of Russia, and member of the Patriarchal Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing O.N. Ovchinnikov; Acting Rector of the Almaty Theological Seminary and Head of the Information Department of the Metropolitan District, Protopriest Evgeny Ivanov; Head of the Metropolitan’s Personal Secretariat, Hieromonk Prokhor (Yendovitsky); Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolitan District, Priest Georgy Sidorov; and Honored Cultural Worker and Head of the Cultural Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District L.E. Goricheva.
The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan shared with the guests information about the key events in the life of the Astana and Almaty Diocese, celebrating its 25th anniversary, and spoke about the implementation of church social, charitable, educational, and youth projects, as well as the activities of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.
In recognition of their efforts to revive and strengthen church singing traditions, the Head of the Metropolitan District awarded the medal of St. Sophronius, Archbishop of Turkestan and Tashkent, Enlightener of Semirechye, to A.A. Puzakov, A.K. Mayorov, and S.T. Kruglikov.
Metropolitan Alexander wished the awardees divine assistance in their responsible ministries and presented them with publications on the life of Orthodoxy in Kazakhstan, along with music discs featuring recordings of the metropolitan choir conducted by Honored Cultural Worker of Russia O.N. Ovchinnikov.
The guests expressed their gratitude to the Metropolitan for the high church honors, praised the well-organized conference, and shared their positive impressions of visiting the holy sites of the Astana and Almaty Diocese and exploring the landmarks of the Southern Capital.
