Christmas Metropolitan Christmas Trees Held in Almaty

Christmas Metropolitan Christmas Trees Held in Almaty
On January 11–12, 2025, in Almaty, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, six Christmas Metropolitan Christmas Tree celebrations took place at the State Academic Korean Theatre. These events welcomed young students of Sunday schools in the southern capital.

The audience also included children from large and low-income families.

The event was organized by the Central Sunday School at St. Nicholas Cathedral in Almaty (Director: G.V. Cherepanova).

Before the performances, the children, their parents, and Sunday school teachers were greeted with Christmas wishes by the vicars of the Astana Diocese: Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan; Bishop Claudian of Taldykorgan; and Bishop Benjamin of Talgar.

Students of the Central Sunday School performed a musical play based on the fairy tale The Scarlet Flower by S.T. Aksakov. The production involved 29 students aged 5 to 18, as well as students from the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.

After the performance, dances, games, and contests were held in the theatre lobby around the Christmas tree, featuring fairy tale characters.

At the conclusion of the celebration, all young participants received gifts.

This year, more than 2,500 children attended the performances.
