On January 29–30, 2026, an international seminar–training titled “Development of Intercultural Religious Literacy” was held in Astana at the SAAD Hotel.
The event was devoted to issues of religious and cultural diversity, the development of dialogue skills and ethical interaction, as well as the prevention of tension in interconfessional and intercultural environments.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the seminar was attended by the Head of the Public Relations Department of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, a lecturer at the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary.
The training was conducted within the framework of cooperation between the American organization LYNC, which works on issues of freedom of religion worldwide, the Committee for Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Caspian University, and the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kazakhstan.
The participation of representatives of the Republic’s prosecutorial bodies emphasized the practical orientation of the topics discussed and their significance for ensuring public stability and law and order.
During the sessions, Archpriest Alexander presented to the participants the Church’s experience of constructive dialogue with the state and society, and also highlighted the importance of religious literacy as a factor in preventing extremism and social conflicts.
Participants noted that holding such events contributes to the formation of a professional and balanced approach to religious issues in the public sphere and to the development of a culture of responsible interconfessional interaction in contemporary Kazakhstani society.
