Festival of Bell Ringing “Paschal Peals” Held in Almaty

April 13–18, 2026, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the festival of bell ringing “Paschal Peals” was held in Almaty, bringing together bell ringers and parishioners of churches of the Southern capital and the Almaty region.

The event was organized by the Department for Culture of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan (head – Priest Bogdan Boyko).

The festival took place at the bell towers of five churches of the city: the Nativity of Christ, Kazan, St. Nicholas, and St. Sophia cathedrals, as well as the Church in honor of the Synaxis of the Most Holy Theotokos.

All those who wished were given the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, share their experience, or acquire the art of church bell ringing. Guests of the event were told about the history of bell ringing and its various forms, and were shown the bells that have been preserved in Almaty since the pre-revolutionary period.

On Bright Saturday, the results of the festival were summarized in the foyer of the Spiritual, Cultural, and Administrative Center named after Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov). The award ceremony was led by a cleric of St. Sophia Cathedral of the Iveron-Seraphim Convent, Priest Alexander Alferov.

All participants of the festival were awarded certificates of appreciation.

At the conclusion of the event, a group photograph was taken.
