On January 17, 2025, in Almaty, at the invitation of the Consul General of the Russian Federation in the southern capital, D.A. Turaev, the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, visited the Russian Consulate.
The meeting was attended by: the Honored Artist of Russia and member of the Church-Public Council under the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ for the development of Russian church singing, O.N. Ovchinnikov; Acting Rector of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary and Head of the Information and Publishing Department of the Metropolitan District, Protopriest Eugene Ivanov; Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolitan District, Priest George Sidorov; and staff members of the diplomatic mission.
Metropolitan Alexander and Dmitry Alexandrovich exchanged greetings for the Christmas holiday and the start of 2025.
The archpastor informed the Consul General about the life of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan, which will celebrate the 15th anniversary of its canonical status this year.
The Metropolitan shared plans regarding the forthcoming visit of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ to Kazakhstan. The Patriarch is scheduled to arrive in Astana in September to participate in the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
Dmitry Alexandrovich noted the strong relationship between the Orthodox Church, the Embassy of the Russian Federation, and Russian diplomatic missions in Kazakhstan.
As a memento of the meeting, the Metropolitan presented the Consul General with an icon of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky and a calendar of the Metropolitan District for 2025.
The meeting was held in a warm atmosphere.
