Representatives of the Almaty Diocese Participate in a Roundtable Discussion on Religious Activity Legislation

On January 30, 2025, in Almaty, the conference hall of the Best Western Union Plus hotel hosted a roundtable discussion titled “Review of Legal Norms in the Sphere of Religious Activity and Law Enforcement Practices in the Republic of Kazakhstan.” The event was organized by the Association of Religious Organizations of Kazakhstan.

The roundtable gathered representatives of religious organizations, lawyers, and legal experts.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the event was attended by the Head of the Public Relations Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District and Keyholder of the Ascension Cathedral, Protopriest Alexander Suvorov, as well as lawyer and lecturer at the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary, G. A. Zhevlyakov.

During the discussion, participants addressed pressing issues related to the legal regulation of religious activity in Kazakhstan. They analyzed key aspects of the legislation concerning the rights and responsibilities of religious organizations, freedom of religion, the registration process for religious groups, and mechanisms of law enforcement practices.

In their presentations, Protopriest Alexander and Gleb Andreevich emphasized the importance of legal literacy among religious communities and the necessity of dialogue between state structures and religious organizations.

The participants unanimously agreed that further cooperation, based on mutual respect and legal responsibility, would contribute to strengthening peace and harmony in Kazakhstani society.

At the conclusion of the event, the organizers thanked the attendees for their meaningful discussions and exchange of experiences, underscoring the importance of constructive interaction in fostering legal awareness and improving legislation.
