April 4, 2025. Rudny. Following the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint John the Theologian, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan met with the Akim of the city of Rudny, Viktor Nikolaevich Ionenko.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary of the Kostanay Diocese, Hieromonk Gennady (Burdyuzha).
After an exchange of greetings, Viktor Nikolaevich expressed his gratitude to the archpastor for his visit and sincere appreciation for the Metropolitan’s special attention to the life of Orthodox believers in the Kostanay region.
During the conversation, the Akim acquainted Metropolitan Alexander with the current state of the city and the activities of Kazakhstan’s largest mining and beneficiation enterprise – the Sokolov-Sarbai Mining and Processing Association, located near the borders of Rudny. V.N. Ionenko noted that, within the framework of the region’s socio-economic development, a large-scale modernization of the plant is planned. This will significantly increase the volume of mineral extraction and elevate its processing to a qualitatively new level.
The Metropolitan informed Viktor Nikolaevich about the upcoming primatial visit to Kazakhstan by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, who will arrive in Astana at the invitation of President K.-Zh.K. Tokayev to participate in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
A separate topic of discussion concerned the cooperation between the city administration and the Kostanay Diocese of the Metropolitan District in the implementation of joint cultural and educational initiatives. The interlocutors discussed the organization of public and ecclesiastical events dedicated to the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Kostanay and Rudny Diocese.
The meeting concluded in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with Metropolitan Alexander and Viktor Nikolaevich Ionenko exchanging warm wishes for good health and success in their labors.
