The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Awarded Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan with the Order of Dostyk, First Class

April 17, 2025 – Astana. In the Eastern Hall of the Akorda Residence, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, presented the high state award – the Order of Dostyk (Friendship), First Class – to the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.

Attending the ceremony were: Archimandrite Sergiy (Karamyshev), Dean of the Parishes of Astana; Chief of the Presidential Administration Aibek Arkabayevich Dadebayev; State Counsellor of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Tynymbayevich Karin; and Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Galymovna Balayeva.

As noted by the Head of State, Metropolitan Alexander was awarded the high distinction on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of his ministry in Kazakhstan and in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the cause of strengthening peace and harmony.

President Tokayev warmly congratulated Metropolitan Alexander and all Orthodox believers on the approaching feast of Holy Pascha.

Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich emphasized the significant role of the Orthodox Church in promoting traditional and family values, educating the younger generation, and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the country.

The Head of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan warmly thanked the President for the bestowed order, noting that this high award was not only a recognition of his personal labors, but also a tribute to the work of the entire Orthodox Church for the benefit of Kazakhstan’s multiethnic and multireligious people.

The Order of Dostyk was established by the Law of December 12, 1995 (No. 2676) “On State Awards of the Republic of Kazakhstan” as a single-class decoration. However, by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan of July 26, 1999 (No. 462-1), it was divided into two classes and adopted a new design. The Order of Dostyk is awarded to citizens for fruitful efforts in preserving mutual harmony in society, as well as for contributions to strengthening peace, friendship, and cooperation among nations.
