June 5, 2025. Astana. At the official residence of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, a meeting took place between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aleksey Nikolaevich Borodavkin.
Also present at the meeting was Archimandrite Sergiy (Karamyshev), Dean of the capital’s parishes.
After exchanging greetings, Aleksey Nikolaevich congratulated Metropolitan Alexander on being awarded the Order of “Dostyq” I degree, emphasizing that this high state honor from the Republic is a worthy recognition of his labors in strengthening spiritual and moral foundations in society and his significant contribution to the development of friendship and good neighborly relations between the two countries and peoples.
Metropolitan Alexander informed the guest about the recent session of the Synod of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, held on May 31 in the city of Alma-Ata. His Eminence also told the Ambassador that on June 1, spiritual celebrations were held in the Southern Capital in honor of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council, attended by all archpastors of the Kazakhstan Mitropolitan District.
The head of the diplomatic mission told the Head of the Mitropolitan District about his participation in the festivities dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Baikonur Cosmodrome and the city of Baikonur, held on June 2. A.N. Borodavkin noted that cooperation between Kazakhstan and Russia in the space sector makes a valuable contribution to space exploration and serves as a unique example of mutually beneficial partnership. The Ambassador also shared his impressions of a major international event held in Astana – the opening of the Alley of Eternal Friendship between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation, where speeches were delivered by the Minister of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan, A.G. Balaeva, the Minister of Culture of Russia, O.B. Lyubimova, and the Akim of the capital, Zh.M. Kassymbek.
The interlocutors discussed the preliminary program of the visit to Kazakhstan by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’. During the visit, His Holiness will participate in the VIII Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, celebrate the Liturgy at the Uspensky Cathedral in Astana, consecrate the new capital church in honor of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Kazakhstan, and the newly built memorial chapel at Lisya Balka in Shymkent, and visit the Orthodox church built on the site of the former Akmolinsky Camp for Wives of Traitors to the Motherland – “ALZHIR.”
As the meeting continued, the sides exchanged views on the role of traditional religions in public life – in preserving moral values, preventing and resolving conflicts on ethnic and interfaith grounds.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Mitropolitan District and the Russian Ambassador exchanged warm wishes.
The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere.
