A meeting took place at the working residence of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alexey Nikolaevich Borodavkin.

Present at the meeting was the Dean of the parishes of the capital, Archimandrite Sergius (Karamyshev).

In recognition of his efforts in developing relations between the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, and in connection with the 75th anniversary of his birth, A. N. Borodavkin was awarded a high distinction of the Metropolitan District — the Order “Beibitshilik pen Kelesim” (Peace and Concord). Presenting the award, the hierarch, addressing the head of the diplomatic mission, said in particular:

“While holding a high and responsible state office, you strengthen political, economic and cultural ties between Russia and Kazakhstan, applying your extensive diplomatic experience and high professional qualities. May the Merciful Lord renew your spiritual and physical strength, grant you vigor of spirit, and assist you in your further labors.”

Alexey Nikolaevich warmly thanked His Eminence for the award and expressed hope for the continued development of the long-standing cooperation between the Russian Embassy and the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District in the work of fostering peace and civic harmony in society and safeguarding traditional moral values.

Metropolitan Alexander informed his guest about recent events in diocesan life, giving particular emphasis to the great consecration of the newly built church dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in the village of Malovodnoye, Almaty Region, and the unveiling in the Southern Capital of a monument to the holy confessor Nicholas (Mogilevsky), Metropolitan of Almaty and Kazakhstan.

The head of the diplomatic mission reported to the Metropolitan District’s Primate on his meeting with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, held on December 9, during which the Head of State gave a high appraisal of the results of his recent state visit to the Russian Federation and negotiations with the President of Russia, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.

By mutual agreement, this most important event has given new impetus to the further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between the two brotherly states.

Alexey Nikolaevich emphasized that the Russian diplomatic service, including the Embassy in Astana, is working energetically to ensure that the agreements reached at the highest level are fully implemented within the established timeframes.

The interlocutors discussed the outcomes of the visit to Kazakhstan by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, during which His Holiness took part in the 8th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, celebrated a prayer service at the Assumption Cathedral of Astana, and consecrated the St Sergius Church of the capital’s developing spiritual and educational complex dedicated to All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Kazakhstan.

It was noted that a major public event was the meeting between the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev, and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, during which, for his contribution to strengthening spiritual ties between peoples and as a mark of special respect, the Head of State awarded His Holiness the country’s highest distinction — the Order of Altyn Qyran (Golden Eagle).

The conversation continued with an exchange of views on the role of traditional religions in the life of society, in the preservation of moral values, and in the resolution and prevention of interethnic and interconfessional conflicts.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Metropolitan District and the Ambassador of Russia exchanged New Year’s greetings and best wishes.
