A Meeting Was Held Between the Head of the Metropolitan District and the Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region

April 28, 2026. Petropavlovsk. A meeting took place in the regional akimat building between the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, and the Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region, G.T. Nurmukhambetov.

Participating in the meeting were Archbishop Vladimir of Petropavlovsk and Bulaevo, President of the public foundation “Eleos-Meirim” V.M. Kapsamun, and the assistant to the metropolitan I. Yatsenko; representing the state authorities were Deputy Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region Zh.R. Zhumagulov and Head of the Department for Religious Affairs of the North Kazakhstan Region R.I. Kasenova.

The head of the regional administration warmly thanked Metropolitan Alexander for his visit to Petropavlovsk and congratulated the hierarch on the Feast of the Resurrection of Christ. Gauyez Torsanovich noted that the feasts of the traditional confessions of Kazakhstan hold a special place in the spiritual and cultural life of the people, and that the social and economic development of the region, as well as of the entire Republic, is impossible without close cooperation between state authorities and religious and public organizations. During the meeting, participants cited words from the Paschal greeting of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev: “Harmoniously woven into our culture, Paschal traditions bring people of all ethnicities and faiths closer together. They contribute to strengthening family values, mutual understanding, and harmony in society.”

The Akim of the North Kazakhstan Region informed the Head of the Metropolitan District about the working visit to the region of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K.A. Bozumbayev, who familiarized himself with the flood situation and the constructed protective structures. According to Gauyez Torsanovich, at present the threat of flooding in the region has been minimized, but despite this, the relevant services continue to operate in an intensified mode.

Metropolitan Alexander, addressing the Akim of the region, emphasized the importance of developing dialogue between the regional akimat and the Petropavlovsk–Bulaevo Diocese for the spiritual renewal of society, the preservation of traditional moral values, and the historical memory of the people. The hierarch expressed gratitude to the representatives of state authorities for their attention to the needs of the Orthodox residents of the city and the region.

His Eminence spoke about his visits to the Karaganda and Ural dioceses of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District and also shared with the regional leader information about the upcoming celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the return of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Almaty to the Orthodox Church. According to the archpastor, the celebration will take place in the Southern capital during the Paschal period, on May 10, with the participation of hierarchs of Kazakhstan and visiting archpastors from Russia and CIS countries.

The Akim of the region, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, and Archbishop Vladimir discussed a number of current issues concerning the life of the Petropavlovsk–Bulaevo Diocese and the interaction between regional and diocesan leadership.

At the conclusion of the meeting, held in a friendly atmosphere, Metropolitan Alexander presented G.T. Nurmukhambetov with a calendar of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan for 2026 and the book “Churches of Kazakhstan. 21st Century,” published by the Metropolitan District’s publishing department.
