October 21, 2024. Karaganda. A meeting took place at the Karaganda Region Akimat between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and the regional head, Yermaganbet Kabdullovich Bulekpayev.
The meeting was attended by Archbishop Sebastian of Karaganda and Shakhtinsk, the secretary of the Karaganda Diocese Protopriest Dmitry Patrikeyev, Metropolitan’s protocol officer Protodeacon Roman Golovin, and the Metropolitan’s assistant I.E. Yatsenko. Representing the local government were E.S. Galiev, head of the Akim’s office of the Karaganda Region, A.U. Aldeney, deputy Akim of the region for education, internal policy, language development, youth policy, religion, culture, and sports, M.M. Kozhukhov, Akim of Karaganda, and Zh.A. Sektai, head of the regional Department of Religious Affairs.
After exchanging greetings, Metropolitan Alexander and Yermaganbet Kabdullovich congratulated each other on the recent Day of Spiritual Accord, celebrated in Kazakhstan on October 18. Both leaders agreed that this holiday, established at the dawn of Kazakhstan’s independence, has become a vivid testament to the unity of the multinational and multi-confessional people of the Republic. Participants expressed confidence that the state-confessional relationships formed during Kazakhstan’s years of sovereignty would continue to foster fraternity between representatives of different nationalities and religions, contributing to the creation of a spiritually strong and morally healthy society.
During the meeting, the regional head expressed gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who blessed the bringing of the significant Orthodox relic – the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow – to Kazakhstan, and to Metropolitan Alexander for organizing the pilgrimage of the relics throughout the country, including Karaganda. The Head of the Metropolitan District shared that more than 136,000 Kazakhstani citizens had venerated the relics during their stay in Astana, Almaty, Uralsk, Kostanay, and Pavlodar.
Yermaganbet Kabdullovich briefed the hierarch on the life of the region, providing statistical data on the industrial and agricultural sectors, and informing him about the socio-economic development of the area.
The participants exchanged views on significant events in the life of the Republic, particularly discussing the recently concluded 22nd session of the Secretariat of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. They praised the efforts of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, whose initiative has continued to develop this major international forum held regularly in the capital of the Republic. It was noted that in the context of increasing geopolitical tensions, in order to prevent the escalation and spread of international and interethnic conflicts, it is necessary to focus and intensify the work of the Congress and its Secretariat to strengthen dialogue and maintain unity and harmony around the world.
The meeting took place in a friendly and trusting atmosphere; both sides exchanged well wishes for health, success in their endeavors, and commemorative gifts.
