November 20, 2024. Almaty. A roundtable discussion titled “Mechanisms for Effective Engagement of Moscow with Russian Compatriots Living Abroad” was held in Almaty, bringing together representatives of diplomatic and public organizations from Kazakhstan and Russia.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the Head of the Public Relations Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District and Dean of the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty, Archpriest Alexander Suvorov, participated in the meeting.
In his opening remarks, Father Alexander conveyed the blessing of the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan to the attendees. He emphasized the importance of strengthening spiritual ties among compatriots, preserving Orthodox traditions, safeguarding Kazakhstan’s cultural heritage, and fostering interfaith dialogue.
Speakers at the roundtable included Dmitry Turaev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Almaty; Igor Tkach, Deputy Head of the Department for External Economic and International Relations of Moscow; and Sergey Orlov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow City Duma.
Participants discussed topics related to the prospects for collaboration between organizations of Russian compatriots and the Moscow Government, the activities of Cossack and youth associations, and the role of the Orthodox Church in promoting intercultural and interethnic dialogue.
The event concluded with a Q&A session, where attendees explored further steps to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
