Representatives of the Diocese of Almaty Participate in the Taza Qazaqstan Environmental Campaign in the Southern Capital

On October 10, 2026, a citywide clean-up event was held in Almaty as part of the nationwide Taza Qazaqstan environmental programme.

The event took place in eight districts of the city, including Baum Grove, the site of the martyrdom of Hieromartyr Pimen of Verny.

With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the Diocese of Almaty was represented by: Archpriest Alexander Suvorov, Head of the Metropolitan District’s Public Relations Department and Dean of the Ascension Cathedral; Priest Georgy Rublinsky, Dean of the Kazan Cathedral in Almaty; Deacon Vitaly Bystrushkin, cleric of the Ascension Cathedral; Deacon John Churkin, cleric of St. Nicholas Cathedral in Almaty; clergy and parishioners of the city’s churches; students of the Almaty Theological Seminary; and members of the Orthodox youth movement.

Other participants in the environmental campaign included N. M. Kikimov, Head of the Almaty Department of Religious Affairs; employees of the Akimat of Almaty’s Turksib District; and representatives of religious associations and ethnocultural centres of the Southern Capital.

Before the event began, Archpriest Alexander Suvorov addressed those gathered, emphasizing the importance of caring for the environment and our responsibility to preserve God’s creation.

During the clean-up, participants collected litter, cleaned the grounds, and carried out landscaping and tree-planting activities.

Representatives of religious organizations noted that such initiatives play an important role in fostering a sense of responsibility for cleanliness and order, as well as environmental awareness among the city’s residents.

The participants expressed their intention to continue organizing joint community clean-up events in the future.

The Taza Qazaqstan environmental campaign, which has been held regularly since 2024, aims to raise public awareness of environmental protection and promote a culture of environmental responsibility.
