During the night of January 27–28, 2025, a tragic accident occurred on the M12 highway near the village of Pilna in the Nizhny Novgorod region. A car carrying Archbishop Serapion (Kolosnitsyn) of Kokshetau and Akmola was involved in a fatal crash.
The archpastor was traveling from the city of Kokshetau (Republic of Kazakhstan) to Moscow to participate in the Christmas Readings. As a result of the accident, Archbishop Serapion sustained injuries incompatible with life and passed away at the scene. The funeral service for the newly-reposed Archbishop Serapion and his burial will take place at the Resurrection Cathedral in Kokshetau. Details about the time of the funeral and burial will be announced later.
The Head of the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, served a memorial litiya for the reposed hierarch.
