Condolences from the Vatican Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan on the Passing of Archbishop Serapion of Kokshetau and Akmola

January 29, 2025. The Vatican Ambassador—Apostolic Nuncio to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Archbishop George Panamthundil, sent his condolences to the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, on the passing of Archbishop Serapion of Kokshetau and Akmola:

Your Eminence, With deep sorrow and a heavy heart, I extend my sincere condolences on the tragic and untimely passing of His Eminence, Archbishop Serapion (Kolosnitsyn) of Kokshetau and Akmola. This shocking loss is not only a profound grief for the Orthodox Church in Kazakhstan but also for the entire Orthodox community, as we mourn the departure of a faithful and devoted shepherd of Christ’s flock.

Archbishop Serapion’s dedication to his spiritual mission and his selfless service to his flock have left a legacy that will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude. His unwavering faith and pastoral care touched the lives of many, and his sudden departure is a sorrow shared by all who knew and admired him.

At this time of mourning, I pray that our Lord Jesus Christ, Who is the Resurrection and the Life, grants eternal rest to His faithful servant in the dwellings of the righteous, where there is no pain, no sorrow, no sighing, but life everlasting. Eternal memory to Archbishop Serapion, and may his soul rest in the embrace of our Heavenly Father.

I also pray that God, in His boundless mercy, grants Your Eminence, the clergy, and all the faithful of the Metropolitan District of Kazakhstan the necessary strength and consolation. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, as are all those who mourn the loss of their beloved archpastor.
