On November 11, 2024, in Atyrau, following the Divine Liturgy at St. Nicholas Church, a meeting took place at the residence of the ruling bishop of the Uralsk Diocese between Bishop Vianor of Uralsk and Atyrau and representatives of the Roman Catholic Church.
The participants in the meeting included the Apostolic Administrator Monsignor Peter Sakmar, accompanied by nuns from the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Elizabeth, as well as Hieromonk Bartholomew (Mostovshchikov), the sacristan of the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Atyrau, and Hieromonk Averky (Belov), a cleric of the Almaty Diocese.
Monsignor Peter Sakmar congratulated Bishop Vianor on his birthday, wishing him health, longevity, and God’s help in his service to the Church of Christ.
In his response, Bishop Vianor thanked Monsignor Sakmar for his kind words and extended his congratulations to the Catholic delegation on the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Atyrau Apostolic Administration.
The bishop spoke to the guests about the life of the Uralsk Diocese, its various educational and social initiatives, and provided statistical data on the number of monasteries, parishes, and clergy within the diocese.
During their conversation, both sides exchanged views on the state of inter-Christian and interreligious dialogue in Kazakhstan, expressing mutual satisfaction with the current situation and positively assessing the prospects for further development.
The meeting concluded in a friendly and warm atmosphere, with an exchange of commemorative gifts among the participants.
