Justina Matveevna Melanich

(1887 - ?) – Martyr

Commemoration: The first Sunday starting from February 7 (January 25 O.S.) in the Assembly of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

 

Holy Martyr Justina was born in 1887 in the Tupychen district of the Chernigov province and was engaged in individual farming.

In 1940, she was arrested and sentenced to two years in a labor camp.

In 1942, while serving her sentence in Karlag, she was arrested again in a group case involving Venerable-Martyr Evdokia (Andrianova), and on April 20, 1942, she was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment. Her further fate remains unknown.

She was canonized among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia at the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in August 2000 for general church veneration.
