Iakov Andreevich Perediy

(1871 - 1937) – Protopriest, Holy Martyr

Commemoration day: December 2 (November 19 O.S.) in the Synaxis of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

Iakov Andreevich Perediy was born in 1871 in the village of Nizkie Mlyny, Gadyachsky Uyezd, Kharkov Governorate. He received an elementary education.

He underwent trials as a candidate for the priesthood. The exact date of his ordination as a priest is unknown.

In 1934, he was elevated to the rank of protopriest. He served in the church of the village of Velbovka, Gadyachsky District, Kharkov Oblast.

On August 28, 1936, he was arrested on charges of participating in a "counter-revolutionary group of churchmen."

On March 27, 1937, he was sentenced by a special session of the NKVD of the USSR to 5 years of exile in Kazakhstan.

He worked as a watchman for Dorstroy in the village of Borodulikha, Bel-Agachsky District, East Kazakhstan Oblast. On November 21, he was arrested on charges of "anti-Soviet agitation against the collective farm system." He was placed in a pre-trial detention cell in the Bel-Agachsky District NKVD office, and then transferred to the Semipalatinsk prison. He did not plead guilty.

On November 27, he was sentenced to death by the Special Troika of the NKVD of East Kazakhstan Oblast. He was buried in an unknown grave.

His name was included in the Synaxis of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia by the decree of the Holy Synod on December 27, 2000.
