Meletiy (Golokolosov)

(1870 -1918) – hieromonk, hieromartyr

Commemoration on the first Sunday after September 16 (September 3, O.S.) in the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

 

Born in 1870. From the Don Cossacks.

In 1898, he entered Glinsk Hermitage as a novice. Tonsured a monk on August 27, 1902, at Glinsk Hermitage.

On August 25, 1905, at his request, he was transferred to the Issyk-Kul Monastery of the Turkestan Diocese.

Ordained a hierodeacon on April 30, 1906. Ordained a hieromonk on November 30 of the same year.

On December 22, 1907, Hieromonk Meletiy of Issyk-Kul Holy Trinity Monastery was awarded the nabedrennik.

On May 2, 1908, he was assigned as a parish priest in the town of Przhevalsk.

Subsequently, Hieromonk Meletiy was often on missions, fulfilling pastoral duties in small rural parishes and military garrisons, where due to insufficient support and other inconveniences, a married priest could not be appointed.

On April 1, 1913, by the decree of the Holy Synod, he was awarded the pectoral cross.

After the devastation of Issyk-Kul Monastery during the Kyrgyz uprising in 1916, he served in Kopalsky Uyezd of Semirechye Oblast, where he was killed in 1918 during the civil unrest.

Canonized as a saint among the new martyrs and confessors of Russia by the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000 for general church veneration.
