Ioann Ivanovich Florovsky

(1877 - 1937) – Priest, Hieromartyr

Commemoration day: December 2 (November 19 O.S.) in the Synaxis of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.

Ioann Ivanovich Florovsky was born in 1877 in the village of Istomino, Tarussky Uyezd, Kaluga Province. He graduated from a theological seminary.

In 1897, he was ordained as a priest and served in the city of Bobrov in the Voronezh Province.

On March 17, 1937, he was arrested on charges of "counter-revolutionary activities" and exiled to Kazakhstan for five years. He resided in the village of Maiskoye, Beskaragai District, East Kazakhstan Region.

On November 25, 1937, he was arrested again on charges of "counter-revolutionary activities." He was part of a group case along with Archimandrite Gennady (Rebeza) and priests Alexander Mishutin, Ioann Malinovsky, and Ioann Piramidin. He did not admit guilt.

On December 1, 1937, he was sentenced to execution by shooting by the Special Troika of the NKVD for the East Kazakhstan Region.

He was buried in an unknown mass grave.

Ioann Florovsky was glorified by the Jubilee Hierarchical Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000.
