Greeting of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan on Defender of the Fatherland Day

Greeting of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan on Defender of the Fatherland Day

May 7, 2026. Defender of the Fatherland Day is being observed in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, congratulated the President of the country Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich Tokayev, as well as the leadership and personnel of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the occasion of the holiday.

The greeting address states, in particular:

“A strong army is the guarantee of preserving the sovereignty, integrity of the country, and the peaceful life of its citizens. At all times, service to the Motherland and the defense of its sacred frontiers have been regarded as the highest expression of love for the Fatherland, and our people treat with special gratitude and respect those who, sparing neither strength nor even life itself, protect their native land.

The Orthodox Church has always blessed military service, prayed for the granting of victory, and in days of sorrow shared the pain of loss for soldiers who fell on the fields of battle.

The good relations that have developed between the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan and the leadership of the Republic contribute to the affirmation in our society of high spiritual and moral values, patriotism, and a careful attitude toward history and traditions. May God grant that this may continue in the future as well.

On this festive day, I sincerely wish the command of the Armed Forces and all servicemen peace, prosperity, and strength of soul and body in their difficult and responsible service for the good of their native Kazakhstan.”
