In Ust-Kamenogorsk a memorial cross was installed and consecrated in memory of those killed during the repressions of the 20th century in Eastern Kazakhstan

August 31, 2025. Ust-Kamenogorsk. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, on the grounds of the main church of the capital of Rudny Altai, a memorial cross was installed and consecrated.

The unveiling of the memorial sign is dedicated to the memory of Orthodox clergy, monastics, and laity who suffered for their faith in Eastern Kazakhstan in the 20th century.

Praying during the rite of consecration were: the president of the charitable foundation ELEOS-MEIRIM V.M. Kapsamun, diocesan clergy, and parishioners of the churches of the Ust-Kamenogorsk diocese.

Archbishop Amphilochius of Ust-Kamenogorsk and Semipalatinsk celebrated the rite of the consecration of the cross.

Before the beginning of the rite His Eminence addressed those gathered with words of exhortation, in which he spoke of the significance for the historical destiny of the Russian Orthodox Church of the feat of the Christ-bearers of the 20th century, and of the importance of venerating the new martyrs and confessors in the spiritual life of every believer.

After the rite of consecration, the clergy chanted the magnification to the new martyrs and confessors of Ust-Kamenogorsk. Flowers were laid at the cross.

The memorial cross is installed next to the Church of the Holy Trinity of the monastery of the same name.

The commemorative sign is made of marble and represents a cross on a trapezoidal pedestal. On the front side is a bas-relief image of the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ with the figures of those standing by, and below an inscription in Church Slavonic script: “In memory of the Orthodox clergy, monastics, and laity innocently slain in this place during the repressions of the 20th century.”
