20 November 2025. Shymkent. The Head of the Kazakhstan Metropolis, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, visited the memorial church in honor of the New Martyrs of Chimkent, being constructed on the initiative and with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’.
His Eminence was accompanied by: Bishop Khrisanf of Chimkent and Turkestan, Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan (vicar of the Astana diocese), clergy of the Almaty and Chimkent dioceses.
Metropolitan Alexander reviewed the progress of the construction of the memorial church and held a working meeting attended by the Deputy Akim of the city of Shymkent, Sarsen Abayevich Kuranbek.
Bishop Khrisanf informed the Metropolitan about the completion of the installation of the electrical networks, the pouring of the finishing floor screed, and preparations for facing the façades with travertine and for installing the smaller domes.
The Head of the Metropolia positively evaluated the work accomplished and familiarized himself with the activity plan for the coming months. At the conclusion of the meeting the archpastor thanked all those who are taking an active part in building the church, and together with the archpastors and clergy offered a prayer for the successful and swift completion of the construction.
