17 April 2026. Astana. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan held a working meeting on the creation of murals in the newly built church dedicated to Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.

St. Sergius Church, the consecration of which was performed on 18 September 2025 by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, is part of an architectural complex that includes the Cathedral of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Kazakhstan and the spiritual, cultural, and educational center of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District. This project, eagerly awaited by numerous faithful, received the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. During a meeting between Metropolitan Alexander and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K.-J.K. Tokayev, the head of state reviewed the project and supported the idea of establishing an Orthodox educational center and church in the capital. By directive of the President of Kazakhstan, a land plot was allocated by the city authorities and assigned to the Metropolitan District. At present, construction is actively underway, funded by benefactors.

Participating in the meeting were: dean of the capital’s parishes Archimandrite Sergius (Karamyshev); assistant to the dean Priest Sergius Dianov; member of the Union of Artists of Russia, iconographer V.K. Kurilov; and staff of the Astana Diocesan Administration.

Metropolitan Alexander reviewed the mural sketches intended to adorn the newly built church and made corrections and additions to the proposed artistic plan. According to the project approved by the Head of the Metropolitan District, a team of master iconographers from Palekh (Russia, Ivanovo Region) will decorate the vaults and walls of the church with scenes from the life of Venerable Sergius of Radonezh.
