“Immortal Regiment” of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan

With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a photo gallery entitled “Immortal Regiment” is being published on the official website of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District as part of the celebration of the anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

This campaign was first held in 2020 and was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Clergy members hold portraits of their relatives and loved ones who participated in the Great Patriotic War.

Blessing the commemorative event, Metropolitan Alexander stated in particular:

“Victory Day is illumined by Paschal joy and at the same time imbued with pain and sorrow over the countless losses. The calamity that befell the Fatherland in the distant forties united our people, who rose as one to defend their native land. The world witnessed examples of the highest self-sacrifice and boundless devotion to the homeland; millions of men and women fulfilled Christ’s commandment: ‘Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.’ The course of history is relentless, and fewer and fewer remain who took part in the battles and labored in the rear during the wartime hardships, yet ever more clearly in the national consciousness appear the greatness of the Victory and the significance of the sacrificial feat of our fathers and grandfathers. A visible testimony of reverence for the heroes of the war, a tribute of respect to the defenders of the Fatherland who fell on the battlefield, to all those ‘who labored for the sake of Victory,’ is the ‘Immortal Regiment’ campaign. In memory of the Great Victory, on the pages of the official website of the Metropolitan District we are publishing photographs of clergy who were participants in the war and laborers of the home front, as well as our pastors holding portraits of the victors.”
