May 24, 2026. Taldykorgan. Following the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. John the Theologian, a meeting took place at the spiritual and cultural center attached to the church between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and Deputy Akim of the Zhetysu Region D.R. Yesdauletov.
Participating in the meeting were: on behalf of the Orthodox Church – Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan, Vicar of the Astana Diocese; V.M. Kapsamun, President of the public foundation “Eleos-Meirim”; Hieromonk Dimitry (Baidek), Secretary to the Head of the Metropolitan District; Hieromonk Prokhor (Yendovitsky), Head of the Metropolitan’s Secretariat; Priest Georgy Sidorov, Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolitan District; Priest Andrey Shklyar, rector of the Church of the Holy Martyrs and Unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian in the city of Alma-Ata; on behalf of the secular authorities – S.A. Zhanabai, Head of the Department for Religious Affairs of the Zhetysu Region.
Following an exchange of greetings, the Deputy Akim of the region thanked Metropolitan Alexander for his visit, expressing gratitude to the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan for his care for the spiritual life of the region.
Dias Rakhmetovich informed the Head of the Metropolitan District about the life of the region and the socio-economic development of one of the youngest regions of the Republic, established by decree of the President of the country, K.-J.K. Tokayev, on June 8, 2022. It was noted that the political and socio-economic development of both Kazakhstan as a whole and its individual regions, as well as the successful resolution of tasks aimed at improving various aspects of the life of Kazakhstani society, directly depends on preserving peace, good neighborly relations, and interconfessional and interethnic harmony.
A separate topic of discussion concerned matters of cooperation between the administration of the Zhetysu Region and the Taldykorgan Vicariate in the areas of improving the spiritual and moral climate in the region and preserving its cultural and historical heritage.
At the conclusion of the meeting, which took place in a cordial atmosphere, Metropolitan Alexander and D.R. Yesdauletov wished one another health and success in their labors.
Following the meeting with the Deputy Akim of the Zhetysu Region, the Head of the Metropolitan District visited the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God under construction and held a working meeting together with V.M. Kapsamun, President of the public foundation “Eleos-Meirim,” and specialists responsible for the construction.
Bishop Klavdian informed the hierarch and V.M. Kapsamun about the progress of construction of the future main church of the Taldykorgan Vicariate and the spiritual and cultural center included within the architectural complex. At present, the installation of the pitched roof and smaller domes has been completed. According to the Vicar of the Astana Diocese, installation of the main dome, interior and façade finishing works, and landscaping of the surrounding territory are planned for the summer period.
His Eminence made a number of proposals concerning the further construction, thanked all those taking part in the creation of the church complex, and wished them God’s help in their labors for the benefit of the Holy Church.
