From June 12 to 15, 2026, at the invitation of Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta and Governor S.K. Sitnikov of the Kostroma Region, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, will visit the Kostroma Metropolis.
Metropolitan Alexander is an honorary citizen of the city of Kostroma and the Kostroma Region.
Accompanying the hierarch on the pilgrimage are: Secretary of the Metropolitan District, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan and Russia, member of the Patriarchal Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing O.N. Ovchinnikov; Head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service Protodeacon Roman Golovin; and the Metropolitan’s assistants P.V. Sokolov and I.E. Yatsenko.
During the visit, His Eminence will venerate the principal shrine of the God-protected city on the Volga — the wonderworking Feodorovskaya Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, preserved in the Epiphany Cathedral of the reviving Kostroma Kremlin. Before the Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God, the hierarch will offer prayers for the bishops, clergy, monastics, and faithful of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, as well as for the President, authorities, armed forces, and people of Kazakhstan.
The Kazakh hierarch will also hold meetings with Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta, head of the Kostroma Metropolis; Governor S.K. Sitnikov of the Kostroma Region; city and regional officials; and representatives of the public.
On Saturday, June 13, Metropolitan Alexander will celebrate the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Holy Martyrs Alexander and Antonina of Rome in Kostroma. The service will begin at 8:30 a.m.
On Sunday, June 14, the Feast of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Russian Land, the Metropolitan will preside at the Divine Liturgy in the Epiphany Cathedral of the Kostroma Kremlin. The service will begin at 9:00 a.m.
