The Head of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District Concludes Pilgrimage to the Kostroma Metropolis with Veneration of the Holy Shrines of the Epiphany-Anastasia Monastery

June 15, 2026. Kostroma. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, visiting the Kostroma land at the invitation of Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta and Governor S.K. Sitnikov of the Kostroma Region, venerated the holy shrines of the Epiphany-Anastasia Convent.

Participating in the pilgrimage together with the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan were: Honored Cultural Figure of Kazakhstan, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, member of the Patriarchal Church and Public Council for the Development of Russian Church Singing O.N. Ovchinnikov; Head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service Protodeacon Roman Golovin; and assistants to the Metropolitan P.V. Sokolov and I.E. Yatsenko.

Within the walls of the ancient monastery, the Kazakh hierarch was welcomed by: Metropolitan Ferapont of Kostroma and Nerekhta, head of the Kostroma Metropolis; Bishop Alexy of Galich and Makaryev; and Abbess Innokentia (Travina), superior of the monastery.

Metropolitan Alexander prayed before the holy objects preserved in the convent, among which a special place is occupied by the relics of Venerable Timon of Nadeevo, disciple of Venerable Seraphim of Sarov, and the wonderworking fresco-icon of the Mother of God “Smolenskaya,” painted by the outstanding seventeenth-century iconographer Guriy Nikitin.

Following this, Metropolitan Alexander held a meeting with Metropolitan Ferapont.

During the conversation, the Kostroma hierarch informed the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan about the life of the metropolis and, in particular, about a new stage in the restoration of the complete architectural ensemble of the city Kremlin — the reconstruction of the Dormition Cathedral and the Holy Gates. Metropolitan Ferapont also shared his impressions from visiting the Khanty-Mansiysk Metropolis, where, as part of celebrations marking the fifteenth anniversary of its establishment and with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, the wonderworking Feodorovskaya Icon of the Queen of Heaven had been brought.

Metropolitan Alexander spoke about his pilgrimage to Vyatka and participation in the Velikoretsk celebrations commemorating the appearance of the wonderworking icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia.

The hierarchs also discussed matters of interaction and cooperation between the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District and the Kostroma Metropolis.

Later that same day, the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan departed for Moscow. In the Russian capital, Metropolitan Alexander held a series of working meetings concerning the activities of the Representation of the Metropolitan District.
