August 28, 2026. Astana. On the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan visited the construction site of an ecclesiastical architectural complex comprising the Cathedral of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Kazakhstan, the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh, and the Spiritual, Cultural and Educational Center of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
His Eminence performed the rite of blessing of the dome for the bell tower of the Church of All Saints Who Shone Forth in the Land of Kazakhstan, currently under construction.
Present in prayer during the rite were: Archimandrite Sergius (Karamyshev), Dean of the Astana Church District; clerics of St. Sergius Church; staff members of the Diocesan Administration; and specialists responsible for the construction of the church.
After the prescribed prayers had been read, the hierarch sprinkled the dome with holy water. Many Years was proclaimed to the builders of the church and its benefactors. The Head of the Metropolitan District blessed those present with the altar cross.
Following the prayer service, His Eminence inspected the ongoing construction work at the church. He then heard reports from the specialists responsible for the construction of the architectural complex and gave the appropriate instructions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Head of the Metropolitan District thanked those present for their labors and wished them God’s assistance in this important and responsible undertaking – the construction of a church complex eagerly awaited by the Orthodox residents of Astana.
“This large-scale project has received the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and the approval of the President of our country, Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev. The Head of State highly values the historical significance of Orthodoxy and consistently emphasizes its role in strengthening the unity of our people, mutual understanding and harmony in society. The construction of mosques and Orthodox churches is a visible embodiment of the most important achievements of sovereign Kazakhstan – interethnic peace and harmony, respect for the centuries-old history and rich culture of the Great Steppe.
“Thanks to the generous support of benefactors, construction of the Spiritual and Educational Center is currently proceeding at an active pace. I would like to recall the profoundly meaningful words spoken by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill: ‘Those who build churches enter into history. And not only into human history. The names of these people are inscribed in a special way in the Book of Life.’
“I sincerely hope that, by the mercy of God, before long we will take part in the consecration of the newly built spiritual and educational complex and inaugurate its activities for the benefit of our people and the blessed land of Kazakhstan,” Metropolitan Alexander said, in particular.
O. N. Ovchinnikov, choirmaster of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, took part in a patriarchal divine service held at the conclusion of the IV International Congress of Choirmasters and Singers of the Russian Orthodox Church.
