The incorrupt relics of Saint Spyridon, Bishop of Trimythous, have been brought to Baikonur

October 7, 2026. The relics of Saint Spyridon of Trimythous, which are visiting Kazakhstan with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, were brought to the city of Baikonur following their stay in Almaty.

The great sacred relic is being accompanied on its journey by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan; Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan, Vicar of the Astana Diocese; O.N. Ovchinnikov, Chancellor of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, Honored Worker of Kazakhstan and Honored Worker of Arts of the Russian Federation; Priest George Sidorov, Head of the Administrative Secretariat of the Head of the Metropolitan District; Protodeacon Roman Golovin, Head of the Metropolitan’s Protocol Service; and representatives of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, led by Protopresbyters Evangelos Koutras and Thomas Kostamonitis.

From Krainy Airport, where the sacred relic was welcomed by Bishop Ignatius of Aktobe and Kyzylorda and K.D. Busygin, Head of the Baikonur City Administration, the relics of the Hierarch of Trimythous were taken to the Church of Saint George.

A large number of faithful from Baikonur and nearby settlements gathered to venerate the miraculous sacred relic.

The Archpastors and clergy celebrated a brief glorification service in honor of Saint Spyridon, after which the festive Divine Liturgy began, presided over by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.

The relics of the great servant of Christ will remain in Baikonur until 6:00 p.m.
