October 4, 2024. Almaty. The veneration of the holy relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow continues at the Sophia Cathedral of the Iveron-Seraphim Convent. The relics were brought to the southern capital on September 29, on the eve of the feast day of the Holy Martyrs Faith, Hope, Love, and their mother Sophia—the heavenly protectors of the Semirechye region.
The pilgrimage of the relics is timed to coincide with the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Astana and Almaty Diocese, as well as the upcoming 15th anniversary of the canonical status of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
In response to a request from Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ gave his primatial blessing for the relics of Blessed Matrona to be brought to the diocesan centers of Kazakhstan for prayerful veneration and spiritual strengthening of the faithful.
From early morning until late in the evening, prayer services with an akathist to the holy woman are continuously held before the relics. Many residents of the southern capital, as well as pilgrims from nearby towns, come to venerate the holy relics.
The great Orthodox relic will remain at the Sophia Cathedral until the evening of October 7, after which it will be taken to the other dioceses of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
Access to the relics is free from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
