Screening of the Artistic-Documentary Film “Mama’s Letter” Held in the Southern Capital

March 16, 2025. Almaty. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a screening of the artistic-documentary film “Mama’s Letter” took place in the Church Assembly Hall of St. Nicholas Cathedral.

The film was created with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia by the creative team of the SPAS television channel (General Director – B. V. Korchevnikov) in collaboration with the film company Amalgama Studio and with the support of the Maternal Happiness Foundation, which has been actively working to prevent abortions for many years.

“Mama’s Letter” is the first full-length artistic-documentary film dedicated to the protection of unborn children’s lives. The project not only raises the critical issue of abortion but also offers various solutions to this problem. The dramatic narrative of the film is interwoven with documentary segments featuring professionals from different fields—psychologists, lawyers, obstetricians-gynecologists, and clergy—who share their experiences and discuss how they encounter the issue of abortion in their respective work.

The event was organized by the Cultural Commission of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District (Head – Honored Cultural Worker L. E. Goricheva).

Among those attending the screening were: Vicar of the Astana Diocese, Bishop Klavdian of Taldykorgan; Chairman of the Society of Orthodox Physicians of Kazakhstan, spiritual advisor of the Sobriety society of the Almaty Diocese, Archpriest Anatoly Izmerov; Honored Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation, Head of the Culture Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, L. E. Goricheva; and Director of the Central Sunday School, G. V. Cherepanova.

The audience included clergy and parishioners of Almaty churches, representatives of the Union of Orthodox Women, students of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary, and Sunday school students from the Southern Capital.

Before the screening, Bishop Klavdian addressed those present, briefly explaining the concept of the film and its mission—to draw attention to the issue of abortion and explore possible solutions.

At the conclusion of the event, a discussion was held, allowing viewers to ask questions, engage in dialogue about the film’s themes, and converse with the clergy.

The event was filmed by the television studio Semirechye of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan (Director – Honored Cultural Worker Viktoria Posadneva, Cameraman – A. Schmidt), while photography was conducted by Information Department staff member A. Shcheglov.
