With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the regional stage of the 2nd All-Kazakhstan Church Readers’ Competition “In the Beginning Was the Word…” will be held in Almaty.
The organizer of the competition is the Culture Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District.
Participants in the event will include Sunday school students and church readers from the churches of the Southern Capital.
The competition will be held in two categories: Sunday school students (ages 10 to 16) and church readers (ages 17 and up).
The audition for church readers in the city of Almaty will take place on March 23 at 12:00 PM at the Cathedral of Sophia of the Iveron-St. Seraphim Convent.
Also on March 23, the competition will be held in all dioceses of the Metropolitan District, after which recordings of the best readers—regional winners—will be reviewed by the jury.
The results will be announced and the laureates awarded on April 27.
The event is organized with the aim of drawing the attention of the younger generation to the cultural richness and spiritual depth of the Church Slavonic language, as well as to the understanding and reflection on the liturgical texts as part of the Church’s spiritual heritage.
