“Russian Space” Quiz Held at the Vladimir Parish of Chemolgan Station

On March 23, 2025, the Third Sunday of Great Lent, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the parish dedicated to the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God at Chemolgan Station hosted the “Russian Space” quiz in honor of Cosmonautics Day.

This intellectual competition for schoolchildren has been held at the Vladimir Church since 2011. The quiz includes questions on astronomy, tasks related to the constellations and planets of the Solar System, knowledge of the crews of the first Soviet space missions, and also features board games on space-related themes.

The participants of the event were children from Sunday schools of the Almaty Diocese.

The event opened with a popular science lecture by L. I. Shestakova, Head of the Laboratory of Stellar and Nebular Physics at the Fesenkov Astrophysical Institute.

After the lecture, the schoolchildren competed in their knowledge of the history of manned space exploration and astronomy, and played thematic board games.

According to the results of the educational quiz, the winning team was the Sunday school of the Church of St. John the Theologian in Almaty.

The participants received board games and sweet gifts from the Almaty Diocesan Administration, as well as astronomy-themed souvenirs presented by L. I. Shestakova.
