On May 11, 2025, with the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a schoolchildren’s quiz titled “From the Kremlin to the Reichstag” was held at the Vladimir parish of Chemolgan Station. The event was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The quiz was organized by the Commission for Educational Ministry of the Almaty Diocese and involved teams of students from parish Sunday schools.
Before the intellectual contest began, A.K. Uvarova, a lecturer at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, spoke to the children about the wartime service of her father – veteran, Soviet and Kazakhstani glaciologist Konstantin Grigoryevich Makarevich (1922–2017).
Participants then answered questions related to the history of the Great Patriotic War, solved thematic problems, and took part in board games.
The winning teams were from: the Church of the Holy Apostle John the Theologian in Almaty; the Iveron Church in the village of Boralday; the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael in Kaskelen; and the Church of St. Seraphim of Sarov in the village of Baykent.
All participants received commemorative pins, board games, and books on the history of the Great Patriotic War, gifted by the Almaty Diocesan Administration.
