Memorial Concert Held at the Central Sunday School

May 18, 2025. Almaty. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a festive concert titled “Act of Remembrance” was held at the Central Sunday School at St. Nicholas Cathedral in honor of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Among the guests of the musical event were Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan; L.E. Gorichetva, Head of the Department of Culture of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District; clergy, teachers and students from the Sunday schools of Almaty, as well as parishioners of St. Nicholas Cathedral.

The concert featured performances by teachers and students of the Central Sunday School.

During the event, the young performers recited war-time poetry by Soviet poets Olga Berggolts and Anna Akhmatova, as well as the poem “Soldiers’ Lane” by Bishop Gennady (Gogolev), and excerpts from the diaries of children who lived through the Siege of Leningrad.

The audience enjoyed dance numbers such as “Foxtrot Rio-Rita” and “Dance of the Defense Fighters”; a vocal-choreographic piece titled “The War Ended on Pascha”; a literary-musical performance “No One is Forgotten, Nothing is Forgotten”; and wartime songs performed by the choir of the Central Sunday School.

At the close of the evening, Bishop Gennady expressed his gratitude to the participants for their efforts and shared personal stories from his encounters with veterans and survivors of the Siege of Leningrad.

Words of appreciation were also offered by G.V. Cherepanova, Director of the Central Sunday School, who thanked Bishop Gennady, the teachers, and the parents for their support.

The event concluded with a group photograph.
