With the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, from September 9 to 15, 2025, the International Sports Games named after the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky and the International Forum “Faith and Sport” took place in St. Petersburg.
More than 2,000 athletes aged 12–16 took part in the competitions. The program included contests in basketball, mini-football, table tennis, sambo, skateboarding, and chess.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a group of students from the Sunday schools of the Metropolis participated in the events. The group of young athletes was led by the team chaplain, Archpriest Alexander Ievlev, a cleric of the Ascension Cathedral in Almaty, and A.V. Fadeeva, a teacher at the Gymnasium in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh in the city of Petropavlovsk.
The Kazakhstan Metropolis was represented at the games by 12 athletes in various sports disciplines.
On September 11, as part of the competitions, the “Faith and Sport” forum opened. By tradition, the conference brought together athletes, coaches, clergy, government officials, and public representatives to discuss the relationship between spiritual values and physical culture.
On September 12, the day of the commemoration of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, the youth team of the Kazakhstan Metropolis prayed at the festive service in the Resurrection Cathedral (“Church on the Spilled Blood”) in St. Petersburg, after which they took part in the citywide religious procession. More than 100,000 people participated in the solemn march.
During their visit to the Northern Capital, the group of athletes, led by Archpriest Alexander Ievlev, made a pilgrimage to the holy sites of St. Petersburg and became acquainted with the city’s landmarks.
