Representatives of the Almaty Diocese Took Part in an International Scientific and Practical Conference on the Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects of the Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence

April 16–17, 2026. Almaty. An international scientific and practical conference dedicated to the ethical, legal, and social aspects of the development and use of artificial intelligence was held at Caspian University.

Participants in the forum included: the Dean of the Ascension Cathedral of the Southern Capital and Head of the Metropolitan District’s Department for Public Relations, Archpriest Alexander Suvorov; and a final-year student of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary, Yaroslav Makarchuk.

Archpriest Alexander Suvorov delivered a greeting as part of the official opening of the conference. In his address, the pastor emphasized the need for a responsible approach to the development of artificial intelligence technologies, noting that in the context of digital transformation, particular importance is attached to the preservation of the human person, freedom, and responsibility.

Within the expert section devoted to the ethical, legal, and humanitarian aspects of the use of artificial intelligence, Father Alexander presented a report entitled: “Ethical, Legal, and Social Aspects of the Spread of AI-Generated ‘Artificial Preachers’ on Social Media: The Problem of Responsibility and the Manipulation of Spiritual Content.”

The report examined contemporary challenges associated with the emergence of digital images that imitate spiritual guidance and identified the risks of substituting genuine spiritual experience with its technological imitation. Particular attention was given to the necessity of personal responsibility for the word spoken in the religious sphere.

Within the same section, Yaroslav Makarchuk, a student of the Almaty Orthodox Theological Seminary, presented a report entitled: “The Boundaries of Responsibility in the Use of Artificial Intelligence: A Philosophical and Ethical Analysis.” His presentation was devoted to reflecting on questions of human responsibility in the digital environment and the role of technology in shaping the modern worldview.

The participation of seminary faculty and students in the conference served as an important indication of the engagement of theological education in the contemporary academic and public dialogue related to the development of artificial intelligence and its impact on modern society.
