Metropolitan Alexander Visited the Humanities and Technical College of Petropavlovsk and the Gymnasium in Honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh

April 28, 2026. Petropavlovsk. Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, accompanied by Archbishop Vladimir of Petropavlovsk and Bulaevo and members of the clergy, visited the Humanities and Technical College, which also houses the middle and senior divisions of the gymnasium in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh.

Together with the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, the President of the public foundation “Eleos-Meirim,” V.M. Kapsamun, familiarized himself with the life of the educational institutions.

In the lobby, the guests were welcomed by teachers and students. Archbishop Vladimir, who serves as director of both the college and the gymnasium, conducted a tour, during which he spoke to the metropolitan and Valeriy Mikhailovich about the history of the institutions, their present-day life, and the professions that students acquire within the college.

The ruling hierarch of the Petropavlovsk Diocese informed the Head of the Metropolitan District and the President of the “Eleos-Meirim” foundation that several years ago, with the support of benefactors, a major renovation was carried out in the college building, which is an architectural monument: the roof was replaced, electrical wiring, heating, and sewage systems were renewed, staircases, classrooms, and utility rooms were repaired, and a dining hall for 200 people was equipped. More recently, according to the archpastor, the entrance area was restored. “Highly qualified teachers work here, striving to provide young people with the professional knowledge necessary for their future lives,” Archbishop Vladimir noted.

Metropolitan Alexander emphasized that the achievements of the teachers and students of the Humanities and Technical College represent a contribution to the future of Kazakhstan, to the development of civil society, and to the formation of the economic and spiritual-cultural character of the country, since those who are acquiring professions today will determine the path of development of the city, the region, and the Republic tomorrow.

The Head of the Metropolitan District wished the administrators, teachers, and students God’s help in their labors, good health, and professional success.

Archbishop Vladimir also spoke to the guests about the activities of the gymnasium in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh, introduced them to the educational process, and shared plans for the construction of a sports hall. The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan and V.M. Kapsamun spoke with teachers and pupils and visited classrooms and the school library. The metropolitan reminded those present that in 2018, by decision of the Synod of the Metropolitan District, the gymnasium was awarded the Order of the Holy Confessor Pimen, Bishop of Verny.

During the tour of the building housing the primary classes, it was noted that the teaching methods developed at the Petropavlovsk private gymnasium and the educational experience gained there could be in demand and successfully applied in work with children and youth in Sunday schools and youth clubs throughout Kazakhstan.

The students presented concert performances for Metropolitan Alexander and the guests dedicated to the feast of Pascha.
