June 10, 2026. Alma-Ata. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the concluding session of the 2025–2026 academic year for the evening theology courses at the Central Sunday School of St. Nicholas Cathedral took place.
The event was presided over by Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Chancellor of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan.
Present at the gathering were: Director of the Central Sunday School G.V. Cherepanova; instructors Hierodeacon Afanasy (Kozel), Deacon Andrey Plakhuta, V.N. Popov, L.Z. Alexandrovich, D.E. Korzhov, and O.N. Miroshnikova.
The bishop addressed those gathered with welcoming remarks, after which he delivered a lecture on the theology of the Holy Trinity and answered questions from attendees.
On behalf of those present, G.V. Cherepanova expressed words of gratitude to His Grace.
The graduates, in turn, thanked Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral Archpriest Valery Zakharov, and the instructors for their labors, wishing them good health and success in their demanding ministry.
The gathering concluded with a festive tea reception.
With the blessing of Archbishop Alexy of Astana and Alma-Ata (now Metropolitan of Tula and Efremov), two-year theology courses for all interested participants have been operating at the Central Sunday School since 2001. Classes are held twice a week — on Wednesdays and Fridays. The primary purpose of the courses is to provide systematic instruction in the foundations of Orthodox doctrine.
