June 13, 2026. Alma-Ata. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a meeting was held in the throne hall of the Metropolitan Joseph (Chernov) Spiritual, Cultural, and Administrative Center of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District between Archpriest Sergiy Tretyakov, Rector of the Kaluga Theological Seminary, and the administration and students of the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological School.
Participating in the meeting were: Rector of the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological Seminary, Candidate of Theology Archpriest Evgeniy Ivanov; Rector of the St. Dormition Ferapont Monastery (Pustyn) in Borovensk, Hieromonk Andrey (Sinitsyn) of the Kaluga Metropolis; Vice-Rector for Student Affairs Priest Ioann Livinsky; Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Priest Pyotr Bakhtiyarov; Head of the Church-Practical Department, Candidate of Theology Priest Vladislav Pashkov; Head of the Seminary Chancellery Priest Alexander Shishlov; Hieromonk Kheruvim (Levin); and students of the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological Seminary.
Archpriest Evgeniy Ivanov welcomed the guest and introduced him to the students.
During the meeting, the speaker discussed the history of the Kaluga Theological Seminary and its present condition, noting that this year the seminary he leads is commemorating two significant anniversaries — the 250th anniversary of its founding and the 30th anniversary of its revival.
Archpriest Sergiy Tretyakov also shared information about the educational and formative process, as well as the academic work carried out at the Kaluga Theological Seminary.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the distinguished guest answered questions from those present, after which Archpriest Evgeniy Ivanov thanked Fr. Sergiy for the engaging discussion and expressed hope for continued cooperation between the Kaluga and Alma-Ata Orthodox theological seminaries.
