Final Meeting of the Department of Church Singing Disciplines Held at the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological Seminary

June 22, 2026. Alma-Ata. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, a meeting of the Department of Church Singing Disciplines was held at the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological Seminary.

The session was chaired by the Rector of the Seminary, Candidate of Theology Archpriest Evgeny Ivanov.

Participants in the meeting included: Professor of the Seminary, Secretary of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, Honored Cultural Figure of Russia and Kazakhstan O.N. Ovchinnikov; Vice-Rector for Educational Work Priest Ioann Livinsky; Head of the Regence Department and Choirmaster of the Metropolitan Choir V.V. Dudareva; Vice-Rector for Extracurricular Activities and Head of the Culture Department of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District, Honored Cultural Worker of the Russian Federation L.E. Goricheva; and instructors of the musical disciplines of the pastoral and regence departments of the Seminary.

Opening the meeting, the Rector congratulated those present on the completion of the academic year and announced the agenda.

The participants then discussed the results of the examinations conducted in the department’s academic disciplines.

The principal topic of the meeting was the curriculum for the third year of study at the Regence Department. In his address, the head of the department, O.N. Ovchinnikov, drew attention to a number of pressing theoretical and practical issues related to the teaching of church singing.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Archpriest Evgeny Ivanov and Oleg Nikolaevich thanked those present for their labors for the benefit of the Alma-Ata Orthodox Theological Seminary and assigned the department members their respective tasks for the coming academic period.
