June 28, 2026. Almaty. In the Hall of Church Assemblies at St. Nicholas Cathedral, an open lesson was held dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the repose of Venerable Sebastian of Karaganda.
By the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the event was organized by the teachers and students of the Central Sunday School of the Southern Capital (Director – G.V. Cherepanova).
Guests of the celebration included: the Administrator of the Affairs of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Bishop of Kaskelen, Genady; the key bearer (kliuchar) of the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Almaty, Archpriest Alexander Gaychenya; cleric of the Vladimir Church of Almaty, Priest Roman Kravchenko; Head of the Department of Culture of the Metropolitan District, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation L.E. Goricheva; teachers and students of parish schools and parishioners of the churches of the Southern Capital.
During the open lesson, short presentations were given about the life and works of Venerable Sebastian of Karaganda. Students of the Central Sunday School recited poems and performed spiritual hymns.
The audience was also presented with video recordings of conversations with the spiritual children of the elder — Schema-Archimandrite Evfimy (Timakov), Nun Kheruvima (Uvarova), and Abbess Sevastiana (Zhukova).
At the conclusion of the event, Bishop Genady addressed the participants and organizers of the lesson with words of gratitude for the excellent work done.
Words of appreciation were also expressed by the director of the Central Sunday School, G.V. Cherepanova.
At the end of the session, a group photograph was taken.
