Open Lesson Dedicated to the Life and Scientific Achievements of Mikhail Lomonosov Held at the Central Sunday School

November 1, 2026. Almaty. With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the Central Sunday School hosted an open lesson entitled “A One-Man University: The Remarkable Life of Mikhail Lomonosov.”

The event was held with the support of the Eleos-Meirim Public Foundation (President - V.M. Kapsamun) and the Russian House in Almaty.

The lesson was prepared and conducted by L.Z. Aleksandrovich, a teacher at the school.

Among those attending the lesson were Archpriest Valery Zakharov, Dean of the Churches of Almaty and Rector of St. Nicholas Cathedral; M.S. Simakova, Head of the Russian House in Almaty; T.V. Zubkova, Head of International Humanitarian Projects at the Russian House; G.V. Cherepanova, Director of the Central Sunday School; and teachers of the educational institution.

During the lesson, the children learned about the life and multifaceted work of Mikhail Lomonosov, an outstanding Russian scientist, educator, and devoted pioneer of scientific research. Particular attention was given to his extraordinary thirst for knowledge, diligence, and perseverance, which enabled him to achieve remarkable success in numerous fields of human knowledge.

The young participants learned about Lomonosov’s scientific discoveries and research in the natural sciences and humanities, genealogy, metallurgy, instrument making, literature, and art, as well as his contribution to the development of mosaic-making techniques.

The teacher’s presentation was accompanied by illustrative materials. The pupils viewed photographs of the scientist’s native region, learned about the history of Moscow State University, founded on his initiative, and watched excerpts from the well-known feature film Mikhailo Lomonosov.

At the conclusion of the lesson, L.Z. Aleksandrovich conducted a short quiz on the subject. The children actively answered questions, demonstrating their knowledge of the material covered, and read aloud quotations from the great Russian natural scientist.

A special gift for the pupils was the presentation of books and commemorative postcards dedicated to the life and scientific legacy of Mikhail Lomonosov by representatives of the Russian House.
