20 February 2026 – Astana. A meeting took place at the residence of the Head of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan between Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan and the First Vice Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kanat Zhumabayevich Iskakov.
Also participating in the meeting were Archimandrite Sergius (Karamyshev), Dean of the parishes of the capital, and I.E. Yatsenko, assistant to the metropolitan.
The Head of the Metropolitan District warmly congratulated Kanat Zhumabayevich on his appointment as First Vice Minister, wishing him strength and success in his labors for the benefit of the multinational and multiconfessional people of Kazakhstan.
The participants discussed the forthcoming nationwide referendum on the adoption of a new Constitution, which, in accordance with the Decree of the Head of State, is scheduled for 15 March of the current year.
During the conversation, a range of issues of mutual interest was considered.
K.Zh. Iskakov emphasized that the Ministry of Culture and Information continues to develop partnership relations with the country’s traditional confessions, including the Orthodox Church. For his part, the metropolitan noted that strengthening state–confessional dialogue in Kazakhstan consistently contributes to the preservation of traditional spiritual and moral values and to ensuring unity and harmony.
The interlocutors also spoke about the importance of efforts aimed at countering disinformation and provocative statements in social networks and the blogosphere that sow interconfessional and interethnic discord.
At the conclusion of the meeting, which took place in a friendly and businesslike atmosphere, the archpastor and the First Vice Minister exchanged wishes of health and success in their labors.
