January 20, 2026 – Astana. The conference titled “Religion in the Media Without Stereotypes” was held in the capital of Kazakhstan.
The event brought together experts, journalists, and representatives of religious organizations with the aim of developing ethical and legal standards for covering religious topics in the media space.
The conference was organized through the joint efforts of the Association of Religious Organizations of Kazakhstan (AROK), the Legal Media Center Media Qoldau, the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan (SAMK), and the UK Government.
With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan was represented at the forum by: Bishop Gennady of Kaskelen, Chancellor of the Metropolitan District; Hieromonk Dimitry (Baydek), sacristan of the Assumption Cathedral; Priest Viktor Drozhnikov, cleric of the main church of the capital; and I. Tikhomirov, referent of the Almaty Diocesan Administration.
In his address, the hierarch emphasized that media professionals should approach the preparation and publication of material with responsibility and professionalism. His Grace also noted that journalists should more actively cover the social and charitable work of religious organizations.
Following the addresses by the speakers, a discussion and exchange of views took place.
